About the Author
Award-winning author and speaker Patricia H. Rushford has written over fifty books, including five mystery series including:  The Helen Bradley Mysteries, The Angel Delaney Mysteries The McAllister Files, which she wrote with a police detective. She's also written the popular Jennie McGrady Mysteries and the Max & Me Mysteries for kids.

Patricia's most recent works include Strangers in the Night, a romantic suspense. Most of her mysteries are set in the beautiful Pacific Northwest where she lives with her husband Ron. She enjoys sharing the sights sounds and culinary delights of the northwest with her readers. The Oregon and Washington coasts provide the settings for many of her novels. She recently edited and published Red Sky in Mourning on Amazon.
 
Patricia, who worked for 18 years as an RN, holds a master's degree in counseling. In addition, she conducts writers' workshops for adults and children and has been the Director of the Oregon Christian Writer's Summer Conference and co-director of Writer's Weekend at the Beach.

Strangers in the Night

Kidnapping, a mysterious disappearance, an artists' colony, a great cast of characters--Patricia Rushford's Strangers in the Night has all the elements of satisfying romantic suspense. Well developed characters drew me into the story and held my interest. Expert pacing keeps the suspense and romance well balanced. A great read for anyone who enjoys a good mystery--especially one set on the scenic Oregon coast.

A page turner

"Strangers in the Night" hooked me from the first page. Rushford's carefully crafted threat of danger and promise of romance made me forget the Pacific Northwest's dark days and drenching rain. As a
writer and artist myself, I was intrigued with the idea of an Artist's Colony and wished there was one where I live. An accomplished story teller, Rushford's tale has more plot twists than an old country road.

Strangers in the Night was a good read! :)

Strangers in the Night was a good read - a little predictable, but I still enjoyed it. I liked the characters and thought the romance was sweet, though I wish the ending would have had a bit more closure.

The mystery was good and, while I did end up guessing the guilty party, there were still a few surprises in the story and Strangers in the Night kept me interested.

This is the first book I've read from the "When I Fall In Love" collection, but it won't be my last, as I'm really excited to read "Unforgettable" by Trish Perry when I have the time.

If you enjoy books with some romance and suspense, I think you might enjoy Strangers in the Night.

He holds multiple IT certifications and has an A.S. degree in Computer Information Science. Joe currently works as part of a team of network engineers for a company in central Florida. Prior to accepting this position, he was working as a Senior Technician for a healthcare provider, a Domain Administrator for a small college, and a Service Desk Specialist for a Fortune 100 company. Joe is well versed in server, desktop, and network administration.

Aside from his full-time job, Joe is a managed service provider for a few small businesses in central Florida where he provides various remote and onsite IT consulting services. He volunteers his knowledge and skills by participating in the Microsoft Answers forums, the Spiceworks IT Professional Community, and frequently posts troubleshooting and tech articles on his website at www.joedissmeyer.com. Good first attempt but more details needed

I'll note up front that I didn't purchase a copy of the book myself. I received a copy of the e-book from Packt Publishing and I appreciate them giving me an opportunity to review the book and provide my feedback.

I've been administrating SolarWinds Servers for the last 5 years and I was very excited when I learned that someone had written a book about SolarWinds Orion because I agree with the author that the vendor documentation at times is not as useful as it should be but over the years I've seen dramatic improvements made.

At the company I work for, we are using SolarWinds Orion with the SAM module and SolarWinds Enterprise Operations Console. I ran the product through our test lab and wrote the standardized build documents we use for installing and configuring an Orion, EOC and SQL server. As part of training new administrators, I have them read the install and administrator guides for each product, and while they cover 80% of the issues my administrators and I run into on a daily basis, they don't cover the issues that you find yourself dealing with in day to day operations. I was hoping that the author covered many of the things that I ran into and still do to some degree even now. Things like:

- How to enable SNMP on Solaris and other types of devices (i.e. F5 Load balancers and Environmental control units). Perhaps this could be added as an appendix?
- A simple terms explanation of the function of the various Orion services contained within the Orion Service Manager and how they interact with each other.
- Why Orion does NetBIOS lookups in addition to DNS on the nodes and how and when to turn it off.
- An overview of the various logs that Orion generates, their location and the information they contain.
- How and when to access Hubble for in-depth real-time diagnostics.
- How to SSL enable your website (included in the Admin guide) and use PKI tokens for authentication
- An explanation of the SNMPv3 credential requirements and how to enable SNMPv3 on routers & switches.

I had high expectations before I read the book which were not fulfilled, however, I think this book is great for Admins that have a hard time understanding SolarWinds official documentation but at the current price point I can't recommend it over the official documentation. In my opinion, for the book to be an essential guide for installing, implementing and calibrating SolarWinds Orion NPM it needs to include explanations of the areas where the official documentation is lacking in easy to understand terms. Having said that, I look forward to future revisions of the book and will update my review accordingly.

Excellent Technical Manual! A must have!

I was given a review copy of this book in digital form.
I am very much enjoying this manual. It is easy to read, has more explanation for the various configurations and how the modules work within the entire Solarwinds Orion system!
I like the Solarwinds documentation, instruction videos, and their Thwack support - all that is given free to support us all.
I hope they still keep supporting like this!
But I do find Joe Dissmeyer's book another excellent source of information!
We have a large Soalrwinds system (NPM, SAM, NCM, 3 pollers - soon to have 4, LEM, UDT, FSM, etc.). Joe, I hope you will publish another one soon on Solarwinds - perhaps a delving a little more on SAM templates with Linux - being more creative with monitoring mount points. And possibly more on NCM.

Just a last note - I love your section on monitoring VMware hosts! Great explantions. I enjoyed reading and following along with our system.

Review of Solarwinds NPM Monitor Guide

I was given this book by packet publishing and over the past 2 weeks compared the material to what I encounter on a daily basis using Solarwinds NPM, NCM, and SAM modules. I thought the book gave a lot of general over all good information. I thought the format and topics covered where good. I would've preferred a little more in depth on the configuring of nodes or using MiB walkers and creating custom pollers. Overall for someone just starting out with solarwinds, this would be a valuable resource.

Amateur sleuth and single mother Melanie Travis (Watchdog, etc.) and her show poodle, Faith, return in a mundane canine cozy centered around the prestigious Howard Academy in Greenwich, Conn., where Melanie is a full-time tutor. School caretaker Eugene Krebbs, an unsavory school fixture, is found dead in his tool shed, stabbed with a pitchfork. Now, along with juggling Faith's dog shows and dealing with the unexpected arrival in town of her fianc?'s ex-wife, Melanie finds herself drawn into the investigation. As part of the school's pageant committee, she is charged with searching through the Howard family papers in the school basement, where she discovers a painting and a 60-year-old diary that may hold the clues to Krebbs's death. Berenson's tale, particularly the Howard family history, starts out with potential but degenerates into a muddle of predictable characters, such as hunky boyfriend Sam, adorable son Davey and a precocious waif called Jane who knows too much for her own good. A fiery close call for Melanie leads to a disappointingly tidy wrap-up in Aunt Peg's kitchen, as the police, having been beaten to the punch by Melanie, eat cookies. (Oct.)

A refreshing change

As someone who normally reads cat mysteries, I was hesitant to read this series. However, Berenson weaves the dogs into the mystery and the overall plot, unlike so many which seem contrived - "the mystery was soved by the pet" The realism and Berenson's background, intense knowledge of her subject, and honesty of characters make this series a standout. Save them for an afternoon/evening when you don't have much to do, because you won't want to put it down!

Schools, Dogs and Clues

"Hush Puppy" is my first in the Melanie Travis and it is one that will have me coming back for another visit. Laurien Berenson keeps the reader guessing with one jump to another. Her relationship with the police is not caustic, which is a device I'm becoming bored with seeing so frequently in regards to amateur sleuths.
Aunt Peg is a favorite character with loads of spunk, a formidable lady who sets her mind on a goal and it remains there. Sam, the friend, does manage to make it past dense. A sound story for avid page turners who enjoy their mysteries light.
Yes, this is a series I will read again.
