Great Comfort Food Recipes

Lorraine Wallace is the wife of Fox News Sunday anchor Chris Wallace, known by his fans as "Mr. Sunday". Lorraine's delicious soups became the meal of choice every Sunday when he returned home from a long morning at his anchor job. As he raved about them on-air, everyone wanted the recipes. This cookbook is the Wallace's response to the requests.

The book includes soup recipes by season with lots of colorful photos. All the recipes look delicious and nourishing. The only one I've tried so far is the hearty lentil soup which was great and I look forward to trying many more. Other offerings include Chinese Chicken Noodle Soup, Senate Bean Soup, Hot and Sour Soup, Mexican Albondigas, Tortellini Meatball Soup, Greek Lemon Soup, Frogmore Stew and several kinds of chili, to name just a few. Lorraine also includes her recipes for basic stocks. Most of the recipes seem easy to make and include commonly found ingredients or those that could be substituted (canned or frozen clams instead of fresh, for example, for the clam chowder recipe).

I did enjoy this cookbook and also liked that the author included some family photos and lets the reader catch a glimpse of the Wallace's family life.

I was given a copy of this book for review by the publisher but the opinion is mine alone and wasn't solicited. If I didn't like the book I would say so.

Everyone Should Own this Book

I love this book! Lorraine's focus on cooking with seasonal organic ingredients is fabulous and the recipes are delightful. My family's favorites so far are the Hearty Lentil and Vegetable Salad Soup. But this is more than just a cookbook. This is a touching reminder of how precious and important it is to spend time with our families. The classic enduring truth is that most of what is really important in life is often shared over a home-cooked meal with your family. After reading Mr. Sunday's Soups, I am resolved to prioritize our family meal times. Thanks Lorraine!

An outdoor experience for any age

Readers of all ages will enjoy this story filled with action, mystery and suspense. A young man facing ever changing obstacles in the winter forest shows resilience and creativity in meeting life threatening challenges. As a sesoned outdoorsman I expected this book would be hard to put down. I observed my wife who is not an outdoorsman as she read cover to cover in record time. She experienced many strong emotions and enjoyed the book from a parent's perspective.

I THOUGHT THE BOOK WAS AWESOME AND ALSO THE THIRD BOOK IS SO AWESOME I HOPE HE MAKES THE FOURTH BOOK!!!!!! Diese Arbeit entstand aus dem Zweifel an den Thesen Wendy Wagners, dass Büchner kein Atheist gewesen sei, sich deshalb nicht mit seiner Figur des Payne in Dantons Tod identifiziert habe und im Hessischen Landboten deshalb Bibelsprache verwendete, weil sie seiner tiefsten Überzeugung als Protestant entsprachen.
Um die Behauptungen Wagners zu widerlegen, werden die Entstehungsbedingungen des Hessischen Landboten untersucht. Dabei kommt der Autor zu dem Ergebnis, dass Büchner sich in der Flugschrift der Sprache der Bibel bediente, weil er diese als mächtigstes Argument betrachtete, um die Bevölkerung zur Revolution zu bewegen.
Anschließend wird das so genannte Philosophengespräch in Dantons Tod auf seine dramaturgische Notwendigkeit hin untersucht und die dort getroffenen Aussagen mit Büchners eigenen Gedanken, die in seinen persönlichen Dokumenten überliefert sind, verglichen. So ergibt sich das Bild, dass Büchner diese Szene als Forum für seine eigenen weltanschaulichen Thesen nutzte. Zuletzt wird dargelegt, dass in den im Philosophengespräch geäußerten Ansichten einiges von dem Gedankengut enthalten ist, das später von Feuerbach und Marx geäußert wurde, zwei der wichtigsten Atheisten der Philosophiegeschichte.
So kommt der Autor zu dem Ergebnis, dass Religion für Büchner nicht als Glaube interessant gewesen ist, sondern zum einen als ideologisches Moment, welches in der politischen Auseinandersetzung sein Gewicht hat, zum andern als argumentativer Bezugspunkt der Dichotomie von Materialismus und Idealismus.
Wenn es auch stimmt, dass Büchner sich an keiner Stelle persönlich zum Atheismus bekannt hat, muss festgehalten werden, dass Büchner den christlichen Gott jedenfalls immer radikal angezweifelt hat.

When I first heard author Deb Burma speak on this topic it was in her keynote address for the Lutheran Women s Missionary League (LWML) convention in Peoria, Illinois, in June 2011. Prior to the convention, Deb had an unusual request: could we somehow rig up a diving board on the stage to be used in her talk. The local properties team and our audio-visual director made it happen. The theme of that convention was, Being with Jesus Living on the Edge.



Deb Burma has been with Jesus and in this book leads readers through the fears and struggles they face. She draws the reader into her own personal experience of fear and relates her stepping out story in the introduction and the first chapter. Sharing her vulnerability, shortcomings, and struggles, Deb s over-riding message is God s grace and forgiveness in Jesus Christ. Using stories from real women, with which many are able to identify, the author draws examples from the ministry of Jesus, inviting us all to be with Jesus and learn from Him. Each chapter ends with reflection and personal applications to life, here and now.

Biblical Encouragement

I enjoyed this book of encouragement based on stepping out of my old to a new life. Many of the topics, My Fear, My Past, My Worries, etc., are topics that many women (and men) can relate. Each topic (chapter) is presented with openness, transparency and no condemnation. The writing style reminds me of a warm letter that a good friend would send.

Although I read this as a personal read, it would make a wonderful bible study for a small group. Discussion questions included are thought provoking and meditative.

Please note that I received this book for a fair and honest review which is presented above.

A must read for anyone hesitant to step out in faith!

Not only is Deb Burma an excellent speaker, her book provides an excellent resource to anyone who hesitates stepping out in faith. She hits the subject of fear head-on with a beautiful balance of grace and backbone. Deb uses real, personal stories and a wonderful balance of Scripture to encourage God's children to step out in faith to His calling. I highly recommend this incredible resource to anyone and everyone who desires to live life on the edge with Jesus!

Excellent encouragement

This book is an awesome book/bible study. Each chapter deals with the struggles of everyday life and the challenges of "stepping out". The relevant and meaningful biblical advice, the real life stories, the encouragement make this a must have book! I really enjoyed it as a personal read but it could very easily be used as a group study book also. Kudos to the author & publisher for a very timely, uplifting, entertaining, spiritual book.

Long time fan review

This book, and its companion pieces, are the best references on pro wrestling history out there. They are not self serving bios or sponsored by WWE. They are written by someone who researched the subjects meticiously and has a great love and respect for the sport. This book is a great read, covering the history and colorful characters, the heels, that made pro wrestling so entertaining. I have just two minor nits to pick. Despite what previous reviewers say, I felt this book wasn't as detailed and personal as the first two of the series. Secondly, I questioned listing Moose Cholak as an all time great heel. Nothing in the narrative suggests any nastiness and I've seen him in action and he was a face through and through. Ox Baker and/or Bruiser Brody would have been better choices.
P.S. I have a feeling the next book will cover the "Faces", but I hope the next book should cover the top 100 wrestlers of all time. There is currently a book out there with that title, but from what I seen in the reviews and knowing the author from his magazine editorials, (Metzner), this one would be far superior.

Being BAD never looked so GOOD!

Finally there's a book on the over-flowing wrestling literature market dedicated to the wrestlers that we, the enthusiastic legion of marks, absolutely love to hate. We call them bad guys, villains, or evil-doers, but in the carnival world of professional wrestling, they are known as "HEELS." The purpose of a wrestling heel is to create a buzz around a match or a storyline and influence the marks (fans) to buy tickets and maybe a little merchandise too - this "buzz" is called "HEAT." The heat generated by these sultans of immorality is ultimately the catalyst that builds up our favorite wrestlers, the ones we cheer for, into bonafide heroes. So in essence, the heel is the most important responsibility in a professional wrestling environment.

Established wrestling journalists, Greg Oliver and Steven Johnson, hit the road to conduct hundreds of interviews with wrestlers, managers, promoters, historians and many others to piece together mini-biographies of about seventy-five of the most hated grapplers of all-time. Starting with a top twenty, and then cycling through several categories such as Pioneers, Madmen, Monsters, Technicians, Foreigners and several others (I'm not going to spoil it for you!). All of your favorite bad guys are found in the latest publication in the "Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame" series. Previous Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame books featured compelling stories about Canadian wrestlers, and Tag Teams - both highly recommended.

My personal favorite heel of all-time, The Sheik, did make it to the top twenty but did not place first as I would have prophesized; however the top twenty is a veritable who's who of wrestling villainy.

Some other Hall of Fame heels you can look forward to reading about are (in no particular order); Randy Savage, George "The Animal" Steel, Gorgeous George, Fred Blassie, Gorilla Monsoon, Eddie Gilbert, Nick Bockwinkel, Ric Flair, Roddy Piper, Mr. Perfect, The Iron Sheik, Jake "the Snake" Roberts, Ted DiBiase, Bad News Allen, JBL, Rick Rude, Bulldog Brower (featured on the cover photo), Johnny Valentine, Terry Funk and that is only the tip of the blood-soaked iceberg. There is a perfect blend of old school and new school incorporated into this book and there are several chapters covering some very obscure wrestlers, who nevertheless are deserving of a mention in this book. All the many heel philosophies are covered in this book, from guys who use fear to manipulate the audience, to the connivers who use their superior intellect to outsmart their opponents, to the guys who pride themselves on being bar-room brawl specialists - you really get a feel for the art of being a wrestling bad guy in, and sometimes out of, the squared circle. It's a fascinating journey that manages to maintain a positive twist despite the focus on debauchery that occurs within the professional wrestling realm.

The wrestling industry has always been build on the philosophy of good vs. evil - but the truth of the matter is one cannot survive without the other. To quote my old pal, Diamond Dallas Page (who is not featured in this book), that's not a bad thing, that's a good thing!

Heel lovers, unite!

Talk about making an impression. When this oversized paperback arrived in the mail, I couldn't help but be awed by it's packaging and presentation. Start with the cover: could you find a picture that better illustrates the absurdity, and the gore, of pro wrestling?
This is a fun book, and belongs in any wrestling fan's library. The aesthetic qualities alone make "The Heels" worth the price; the content therein only strengthens the book's worth. In-depth reporting on dozens of the greatest 'bad guys' the business has seen is what the authors deliver. This is no pre-packaged WWE puff piece, nice and edited, safe for the kiddies, and of course with a completely altered series of events. Nope, this is the real, bloody, forehead-scarred deal.
Haven't you ever been sitting around your home, like most of us, thinking to yourself, "I feel like I need to know more about Magnificent Don Muraco"? Well, now you can. This thick tome also includes the author's picks for the 20 greatest heels of all time, and separates the detailed biographies of each heel by what they played in the ring: Were they pretend foreigners, like "The Russian Bear" Ivan Koloff? Possibly they were preening, robe-wearing dandies such as the legendary Gorgeous George, or more recently, "Exotic" Adrian Street.
Of course, despite my enormous praise, it's not quite perfect. You'll find yourself wondering why there aren't some legendary figures discussed more in depth, such as Kamala or One Man Gang. And does Jeff Jarrett, who spent about half his career as a babyface, and when breaking the rules didn't exactly light the world on fire, belong on this esteemed list? Certainly not.
Small quibbles, all. Enjoy this wonderful read, and pay proper homage to wrestling's greatest characters, the heels.

Aung San Suu Kyi was held under house arrest from 1989-1995, and again from 2000-2002. She was again arrested in May 2003 after the Depayin massacre. At the time of writing she was still being held under house arrest in Rangoon. Aung San Suu Kyi’s message is a simple one – that only by “fighting fear can you truly be free” – a message Burma’s military fears and aims to silence.

Aung San Suu Kyi: Mastering Fear

Few countries give greater reason for concern than Burma, beleaguered as it is under a long-term military dictatorship and few individuals greater cause for compassion than Aung San Suu Kyi detained under all but permanent house arrest in Rangoon since 1989. Gandhians have especial cause to take the Nobel Laureate Suu Kyi to their hearts for, despite being under exceptional duress, she remains committed to nonviolence. In Richard Shannon's play The Lady of Burma, first performed at the Old Vic and then at this year's Edinburgh fringe, the Burmese actress Liana Mau Tan Gould awesomely recreates the life of Suu Kyi.

The play begins with Suu Kyi in the hospital wing of Insein prison, Rangoon's largest, following the atrocity at Depayin, still wearing blood-stained clothes, a bowl of dirty water in front of her. This is a riveting solo performance. We are to share Suu Kyi's memories of her life, both private and public. The central theme is the overcoming of fear. Burma itself is ruled by fear, with some 1,100 political prisoners, child soldiers, slave labour, ethnic cleansing of minorities, the perpetration of rape on ethnic women and children. Suu Kyi's message is simple; only by fighting fear can you be truly free. She had to overcome her childhood fear of the dark and its demons. Her mother was intolerant of fear: "if you were frightened you had to confront those fears instantly." There was to be a terrifying encounter in the early stages of her fight for democracy when she confronts an armed patrol with guns cocked ready to kill her but she walks on and the order is given to lower the rifles; "I faced the demons again and they were not there." She had mastered fear.

Her memories are much of her family. Born 19 June 1945 she can have no personal memories of her father, Aung San, the liberator of Burma, brutally assassinated 19 July 1947, though others can recall for her leaping into his arms and she is much comforted by a leading political ally telling her how proud he would have been of her struggle for democracy, for a Burma "free and under the law." It was to nurse her formidable mother, Daw Khin Kyi, struck down by a stroke, so strict in her own upbringing, that she returns to Burma from Oxford in 1988, though Suu Kyi realises she was always bound to return. She recalls the appalling death of her younger brother, Aung Li, drowned in the ornamental pond of their garden. She reflects on the joy of her marriage to Oxford don, Michael Aris, but also knows that the call of her people will have to take precedence over her husband and two sons and although Michael comes to Burma to help her recover from a 13 day hunger strike the regime will not give him entry to Burma in 1999 when he is dying from prostate cancer and she cannot risk leaving Burma to nurse him in England for the regime would never allow her to return. There is so much personal sacrifice she has to make for Burma's freedom.

It was when attending her mother in hospital that students approached her to take up the leadership of the struggle - one Maung Htoo tells her there is a planned uprising nation-wide for the 8th of the 8th on 1988 - but she is always painfully aware of the certainties of violent repression from the army. Then comes Burma's Amritsar massacre, the slaughter of peaceful protesters outside Rangoon's town hall and the murder of some three thousand in the following weeks. But Suu Kyi takes on the leadership and in the play we cut to her speech in front of the Shwedagon pagoda: "Our purpose is to show that the entire people entertain the keenest desire for a multi-party democratic system of government".

But there still remains "a gnawing fear that I might not measure up and worse that I will lead my people into mortal danger." So she takes on Ne Win's SLORC (The State Law and Order Restoration Council). House arrest follows, 20 July 1989, and her response of a 13 day hunger strike. Weirdly, SLORC sanction elections in 1990 which the National League for Democracy wins with a landslide on a manifesto of nonviolence; even the jailers of Insein vote NLD. But of course SLORC had no intention of honouring the election and Suu Kyi wonders if it had all been a trap. Leading figures of SLORC visit her in 1994, putting a case that economic progress had to precede political, tourism to the fore, but Suu Kyi merely reflects on the law of karma: "every act of violence done to another is done to himself". How difficult, she reflects, it is to make progress: "If we are truly to negotiate I have to advance their interests in step with my own". She is temporarily released from house arrest July 1995. SLORC gives way to SPDC (The State Peace and Development Council). General Soe Win, the murderer of students in Rangoon hospital in 1988 is promoted: he declaims "the SPDC will never talk to the NLD and will never hand over power".

The play ends with the utterly harrowing account of the Depayin atrocity, Suu Kyi stopped en route to a political meeting in the village of Depayin, shouted at as "foreigner", "whore'" dragged out of her car and beaten up, witness to the savage beating of her key political associate, U Tin Oo, to the clubbing to death of her followers. But her will is unbroken: "The hands that tore down the Berlin Wall released the flood that swept away sixty years of tyranny ... I have never lost hope. The time is near. It is coming".
