a perfect book of poetry

Chase Twichell just won the Kingsley Tufts Poetry Prize- the largest prize in the world I think. This is about her 6th book- and is selected poems from the earlier books- plus a whole section of new work. The poems are so human, and very accessible. The topics are not light-hearted- the death of the planet, Zen, rough childhood, sex, alcoholism, death of a parent, but it is all infused with a love of the human experience. Haven't bought poetry in a while because you find it hard to understand (as I do)? Try this. It isn't easy- you have to think- but that's kind of the point- eh?

Chase Twichell Really Deserves To Be Read

Like others I am certain, I applaud Copper Canyon Press for putting out a "big book" collection of previously released Twichell books. I remain stunned at just how many of the poems herein I highlighted in the table of contents. It is eerie to think that a little slender editing, away from including entire past books in this collection, would presumably have created a collection where every poem would deserve highlighting in the table of contents. Twichell, when at the top of her game, writes like no other poet. She is the rarest of poetic breeds--a deep thinker who understands inherently how to entertain and enthrall.

Terrific Poet!

I just discovered Twitchell, and am LOVING "Horses Where the Answers Should Have Been."
Haven't finished all the poems yet, as I want to savor them slowly. She's top rate.
