About the Author

Moon Chiang Mai and Northern Thailand

This little book is an exact duplicate of the Chiang Mai section by the same author's book on Thailand which I just bought.
I feel that there should have been a more expanded and different book on Chiang Mai then one I just spent $8.00.
Perhaps Amazon should have mentioned this fact before I bought it.

Review of the book itself (I mean the text)!

The other review is helpful - it's informative. However it gives no information to people who do not have the Moon Thailand book, want to visit only Chiang Mai and want to drag along a nice light-weight book instead of a brick. It is in fact the Chiang Mai chapter, but that means it's almost a hundred pages packed with accurate information on the region in a format that you won't even feel in your pocket. There is everything you need to visit Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, The Golden Triangle and everything around. So if you have the Thailand book or plan to visit other regions, this one is not for you. But if you want to concentrate on Chiang Mai, you can buy it. The only problem with it (hence 4 not 5 stars) is that unlike Footprint's Chiang Mai (which is also a part of their Thailand book) it doesn't have an extra few pages written about getting to Thailand. It tells you how to get to Chiang Mai from Bangkok, but the competition also tells you about getting into Bangkok itself. And as 90% of visitors to Thailand land there, this is a slight problem.

Sketchy information

This was a disappointing book. I usually love moon books. This one was really thin, few pages. Not decent maps. Maps are the most important piece of information needed in a tour book. The map was totally useless.
There is barely any information about the history of Chiang Mai. Good recommendations about food and hotels though.
