The Gift - that keeps on giving!

Initially, I read "The Gift" because I know the author and wanted to show support for her new book. What I received was so much more. I'm a retired educator who still works part-time with middle and high school-age students, so I knew the teaching suggestions would be helpful. And, as a poet, I felt I would enjoy the poems interspersed throughout this work. Beyond the above, I found "The Gift" a thoughtful reflection on what it means to be human as we interact with other adults, with children, with animals, and with ourselves. The gifts or lessons - presented here clearly and with multiple examples - will benefit every reader. I've already decided to include The Fourth Gift - Stepping Away from the Problem - in my toolbox of ways to deal with life's annoying crises. In short, Alix Moore's horse, Honey Moon, has taught her lessons valuable for all of us in dealing with daily challenges (and that's all of us!). We experience these Gifts in new ways, thanks to the author's attentiveness and insights. How many ways there are to see and learn!

Truly a gift

I read The Gift and felt totally drawn into Alix Moore's sphere of thought. Her book pulled me to its center, asking me questions as well as providing answers. If not answers, I was offered a banquet of thought-provoking contemplations. As a woman who has loved and been loved by several horses and amazing dogs in her life, I was able to relate to many of the experiences that Alix Moore shared with her reader. I am also a teacher with over thirty years of experience, and readily admit that teaching presents a plethora of joys mixed with a good number of frustrations. As I read the pages of Alix Moore's The Gift, I felt myself nodding to students' needs that I recognized, which led to much thought on how to incorporate what I was learning into my repertoire of existing tools. The personal touch, the questions she poses to the reader, and the interspersed poetry, kept me eager to read more.

Connects the DOTs

The author does an excellent job "connecting the DOTs" between what it takes for the teacher and learner to succeed. There are many gems and take aways in this book. "The Gift" is an easy and quick read that provides encouragement that people + patience + persistence = progress.
